Net Metering

Net Metering

Net metering is a North Carolina solar incentive that allows you to essentially “sell” any unused solar power you generate back to the national grid and local utility companies, so not only will you save big on electricity bills, but you can actually profit from solar power! The solar system costs will essentially pay for themselves over time.

Why we are the #1 solar panel company

I recently had the pleasure of working with 8M Solar for the installation of my solar energy system, and I recommend them highly enough! From start to finish, the experience was seamless and hassle-free. One of the standout aspects of my experience was their ability to handle all the necessary approvals from Duke Energy and the bank without requiring any intervention from me. This level of service is incredibly rare and truly took a weight off my shoulders. I was kept informed throughout the process, but I never felt overwhelmed or burdened with the details—8M Solar took care of everything. The team at 8M Solar was not only professional but also exceptionally responsive. Any time I had questions or needed clarification, they were quick to respond and provided thorough answers. Their willingness to help and ensure I understood every step of the process was greatly appreciated. Overall, if you are considering solar installation, I highly recommend 8M Solar. Their expertise, efficiency, and customer service made the entire experience enjoyable and stress-free. Thank you, 8M Solar, for your outstanding work!
This is the second house that I have worked with 8M Solar for the installation of my roof mounted PV system. From start to finish, 8M has provided excellent service. The price quoted was very fair. From the moment I signed the contract, I was kept informed of the projects progress and when I could expect the installation. 8M handled the permit application, interface with Duke Energy, and of course the installation. The team is very professional. The quality of the installation is a great representation of the 8M Team. I will use 8M again on my next project.
8M Solar provided fantastic service with our solar installation. The entire project lasted around 5 months from signing to solar operation and the coordinating team at 8M was always reachable for all questions. Abraham - the installation supervisor was very through and friendly. He answered all my questions and did it with a smile. Overall I had a genuinely positive experience with 8M Solar,
"Outstanding Service and Installation!" 8M Solar provided an exceptional experience from start to finish! The installation process was seamless, and the team was professional, punctual, and highly skilled. They took the time to explain everything in detail and ensured that the system was perfectly tailored to our needs. The quality of the workmanship is top-notch, and the system is already performing beyond our expectations. We’re thrilled to be using clean, renewable energy, and we couldn’t be happier with the entire process. Highly recommend 8M Solar to anyone considering solar installation!
Highly recommend, 8MSolar accommodated a number of design changes and worked closely with my roofing company to maintain my Fortified roof certification. They kept to their schedule, working around severe weather events while having to travel over 3 hours to the East Coast to work. They followed though with County and Electric Company inspection I had no need to call or chase any of these steps. 10kw System with Powerwall 3, has been working as expected for since late October 24.

Frequently asked QUESTIONS

North Carolina solar incentives first started as a result of House Bill 589 in 2017. With this bill, clean energy advocates created a way to incentivize individuals to choose solar in North Carolina. The bill’s purpose is to minimize switching costs by offering local rebates for individuals seeking affordable clean energy.

Federal Rebates

Right now the main incentive available is the 30% Federal Tax Credit which was restored in 2022 with the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act. This 30% tax credit will run until 2032 when it is set to decrease to 26%.

If your entire solar project costs $18,000; you would receive $5,400 back via this tax credit when you file your taxes for the year in which the system was installed. You do not have to owe taxes in order to claim this credit – your consultant can review this with you in greater detail and go over any specific questions!

Getting tax credit for your solar panel installation is pretty straightforward. Hold onto all your receipts, invoices, and documentation related to your solar panel project and use them to file for a massive 30% tax credit during tax season.

In most cases, the residential solar energy credit isn’t refundable. That means you can only reduce your tax credit to $0.00. So if you have $100 left over, this will be carried forward to the following year.

No, there are no tax liabilities when installing solar panel systems. 8MSolar can help you with federal solar tax credits and local solar tax credits to ensure that you are getting the best rebates possible.

There are no state-specific tax credits for solar systems in North Carolina. However, all federal incentives apply, including the 30% tax credit.
